Coal export to Northeast India begins through Akhaura

PBA, Dhaka—Businessmen of Bangladeshi have begun to export coal to Northeast India through Akhaura land port around six-year of suspension.

Due to the heavy demand of coal in Tripura and adjacent areas, Bangladeshi coal traders have been importing coal from Russia and Indonesia on ships through Ashuganj River Port and then exporting those over land route.

A total of 700 tons of coal was exported in last several days, said Akhaura Port Customs official Shanti Baran Chakma.

Akhaura Land Port Export-Import Association joint general secretary and coal exporter Rajib Uddin Bhuiyan said, “Usually it takes US$ 80 to import each ton of coal from Russia and Indonesia and those are being exported for around US$ 110 per ton.”

Shoeb Trade International, Molla Trade International and Bayazid Trade International are among the leading exporters, he added.
